Online Learning and Interaction

While the previous topic demonstrated clearly that it's not only new tools that can be used for effective learning, topic 3 opened up the way for exposure to some very interesting and new tools such as playposit, edpuzzle, and so many more.

The interesting thing about this topic was that the scenario focused on online group work and how to foster interaction and basically monitor students progress. I found that to be so apt for exactly what we are doing in this course.

At this point my fellow Group 5 members seem so familiar and I can already identify each person's style of interaction and contribution, while understanding my own way of interacting within the group. I find myself feeling very much like I can imagine our students feel when tasked with group work, especially within an online space.

This topic also introduced me to new theoretical concepts such as community of learning and integrated learning techniques. The Inspired part of IOL seems to be very effective as I am truly finding myself feeling much more inspired in terms of using innovative ways in my teaching.

My introduction to IOL and PBL

I have to admit that the initial meetings of this course left me feeling overwhelmed, with feelings of "What did I get myself into", however I was quickly put at ease by a very understanding and reltabale facilitator and group members who I could see I could learn a lot from.

How do I feel about a PBL approach?

- Initially I did  not know much about this approach. I have attended many workshops and courses that use a similar approach but I wasn't aware of how it formally came into play.

I actually really enjoy this approach, mainly because of the collaborative learning and because it allows me to think and work through topics myself instead of being spoonfed everything.

Working in a group context is amazing because of the diverse knowledge base.

Look at the key factors of PBL as outlined by Wood (2003), have you ever been taught using these ‘principles’ in the past?  Relate your reflection to literature/resources, using proper referencing.

My expectations and what I wish to achieve

  •  expect to learn a lot more in terms of Online learning, tools, innovations and mainly experiences from others. I also expect to build on my skills, relating to PBL as well as online learning in general.

Further, I expect to be able to take away new and innovative methods that match the thinking of my students and enhance their learning experience.

There is so much to learn and at times it becomes overwhelming, but if I am able to even take away a few key points and methods, this will be excellent.
